2023: Ihedioha, Others In Battle For The Soul Of Imo PDP
The struggle for the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State ahead of the 2023 election continued on Monday as the Charles Ugwuh led exco of the party reiterated its authority in the face of judicial moves to remove it from office.
The Ugwuh led exco is backed by the immediate past governor of the state, Sir Emeka Ihedioha.
There are insinuations that some others like Senator Samuel Anyanwu popularly known as Big Daddy and Rep. Jerry Alagbaso may be supportive of the move against the Ugwuh executive and by so, against Ihedioha.
It is expected that Ihedioha whose tenure as governor was cut short by a Supreme Court judgment in January would again contest against the incumbent governor in the 2023 election.
The immediate past zonal vice-chairman of the party, Orlu Zone, Alloysius Igwe had obtained a judicial order to suspend the Ugwuh executive from a Port-Harcourt High Court.
However, Igwe has not publicly disclosed on whose behalf or who are his allies in the move to derail the Ihedioha inclined state exco.
Responding to the judicial order on Monday, the state Publicity Secretary, of PDP, Ogubundu Nwadike, said that the Ugwuh leadership remained in place despite the move he said was orchestrated by enemies of the party.
He said:
“The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has been drawn to the news report that Court has stopped the Engr. Charles Ugwuh-led State Executive Committee of Imo PDP, purportedly citing an order of interlocutory injunction being bandied by the same disgruntled persons who have been acting as moles to create a situation of crisis in Imo PDP.
“The Party is not unaware of a purported order of the Vacation Court of the Federal High Court, Port-Harcourt, which was a product of fraudulent and false information presented to the Court by the mischief-makers that have been seeking ways to destabilize the sustainable unity and peace of Imo PDP.
“Our great Party wishes to unequivocally state here, for purpose of clarity, that Engr. Charles C. Ugwuh OON remains the State Chairman of PDP in Imo State. The Engr. Charles Ugwuh-led State Executive Committee remains the administrative authority of PDP in Imo state as authenticated by the National Working Committee (NWC) of our Party.”
It was their stand that “Therefore, the Party hereby informs her teeming members that appropriate steps have since been taken to set aside by appeal of the ruling, which was obviously delivered in error. The Party has since filed a motion for stay of execution of the interlocutory order, while actions are being expedited to get the substantive suit fully determined.
“Consequently, we urge all members of the party to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses and activities as the Party will not succumb to the antics of moles, who want to tear Imo PDP apart to benefit their cronies in rival political parties.
“Evidently, in spite of the slight distractions by very few aggrieved leaders of the Party, Imo PDP remains more united, stronger and more unshaken.”
