Akeredolu: Ondo Will Get My Wife As Bonus Governor
By Emmanuel Adigwe
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State strongly rebuffed insinuations that his wife Betty and family members were interfering in the administration of the state, saying his wife’s intelligence is something that has rubbed off to the benefit of the state.
Dismissing claims that his family members were the ones running the government, he said that to the contrary that his wife has through her programmes including breast cancer awarensess programmes impacted positively on the administration of the state.
He said that Ondo State was privileged to have him and his wife getting the benefit of two egg heads for the price of one in having him and his wife bringing forth good governance to the state.
Reacting to a question asked by the Peoples Democratic party’s gubernatorial candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, if he would reduce the tuition fees of students in tertiary institutions if he is reelected, the governor disclosed that the state needs money to manage the schools.
Akerdolu said: “I am not prepared to do it because we have responsibilities and these responsibilities were put on us by the government you (Jegede) served in. This state has no business having three universities at the same time. Having three universities is a whole lot of responsibilities and I believe we are chewing more than what we can bite.”
GWG reports that the three universities owned by the state are, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, Adekunle Ajasin University and Ondo State University of Science and Technology.
