Naira Marley Absent As Falz, Tiwa Savage, Runtown Others Protest SARS Brutality

Nigerian musicians, Falz, Tiwa Savage, Runtown, Rude Boy and Jaywon, on Thursday, joined many Nigerian youths in Lagos to protest the brutality of citizens in the hands of operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

The #EndSARS protest took a new life since Saturday after reports of the highhandedness of the operatives in Delta and Lagos States.

On Thursday, the #EndSARS took a different dimension when some entertainers joined the protest with many Nigerian youth, in different parts of Lagos State.

Conspicuously absent was Naira Marley who had earlier pledged to mobilise his crowd of Marlians and other citizens but was talked out of it by federal authorities including the minister of sports and youth development, Sunday Dare.

The #EndSARS protest which took off in Lekki, Lagos State was taken to some parts of the state.

The protesters carried placards with the inscriptions “EndSARS, Our Lives Matter, Protest us and not kill us, say no to police brutality.”

The Federal Capital Territory was not left out as activists, Omoyele Sowore and Aisha Yesufu led youths in the #EndSARS campaign.

Although the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday, placed a restriction on the  operations of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery(SARS), Anti-Cultism and other tactical squads, the action was rebuffed by many citizens and activists who saw it as an “audio” ban in the sense that such orders had been given in the past without implementation.
