IGP Ends SARS! Gives Directives To Operatives

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has announced the immediate dissolution of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.

Adamu at a news conference on Sunday said that the operatives will be redeployed to other police formations and commands.

The announcement was upon days of sustained agitation against the brutality of the operatives of the unit which had gained traction nationwide and received international traction.

Adamu said:

“The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force otherwise known as SARS is hereby dissolved in all the 36 State Police Commands and the Federal Capital Territory.”

Before the broadcast more demand for the dissolution of the SARS had continued up till Sunday with Pastor Sam Adeyemi of the Daystar Christian Centre appealing to the leadership of Nigeria Police Force to respond  to the call by Nigerians to dissolve the unit.

Pastor Adeyemi made the appeal on Sunday in the course of his church service.

The cleric had on Saturday warned against the firing of bullets and teargas at protesters seeking an end to police brutality and extortion in Nigeria.

In a series of tweets on his verified Tweeter handle, he described the attack on the protesters as unacceptable.

Also in  his Sunday service message, the pastor called on the Federal Government to  be strategic in dealing with  issues that involves the lives of citizens , noting that  the issues that concern  of life of individuals must be treated with utmost seriousness
