Chaos As Soldiers Descend On Lekki Toll Gate Protesters

At least one person was reported dead on Tuesday evening after soldiers were called in to clear defiant youths who laid siege to the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos in defiance of a 24 hour curfew imposed by the Lagos State Government.

The shooting was accompanied by chaos as protesters tried to save the life of at least one person who was apparently felled by bullets.

Before the commencement of shooting, officials of the Lagos State Government had removed the CCTV monitors in the toll gate one report claimed.

Social media has been suffused with videos of the shooting at the toll gate.

An eye witness, Samuel Ajani told The Punch that one person was killed with several others injured after the security operatives moved in to clear the defiant protesters who remained at the toll gate on the claim that the notice for the curfew was short.

Youths across Nigeria have been demonstrating against police brutality with the hastag #EndSARS gaining global reckoning.

The agitation has since dovetailed into the demand for good governance.

Among the earliest to respond as the shooting got underway was Chief Femi Fani-Kayode. In a tweet, he said:
