Lekki: You Lack Empathy, Worse Than Buhari, Nigerians Fire Adesina
By Ayodele Oluwafemi and Emmanuel Adigwe
Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adeshina has come under intense criticism on the social media over his comments on the omission of the shooting of unarmed protesters at the Lekki tollgate area of Lagos State, in the presidential address.
On Thursday, Buhari addressed the nation on the #EndSARS protests but made no direct comment on the Lekki tollgate shooting. On Tuesday evening soldiers had invaded the toll gate and open fire at unarmed protesters.
To the surprise of many Nigerians, Buhari did not mention the Lekki tollgate shooting in his 12-minute address.
Reacting to the omission of the Lekki tollgate in the presidential address, Adesina, in an interview with Channels TV, on Friday, argued that Buhari referenced the shooting in his charge to the international community.
The media aide argued that the president is still waiting for the investigation of the defence ministry and that of the Lagos State Government before making his comment.
In the interview, Adesina said he had a hand in the writing of the speech.
Many Twitter users who have reacted to Adesina’s comments on the Lekki tollgate shooting criticized him for showing lack of empathy for the victims of the incident.
