The Scottish actor Sean Connery, the first man to play James Bond has died at 90. His death was confirmed by the family the BBC reported in a news flash on Saturday afternoon.

Connery who has won repeated polls as the greatest living Scot man following his alluring acting career won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award.

He became the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films.

The films included Dr. No, You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again).

He also acted in several films outside the Bond series.

In 1989 he was voted by People Magazine as the Sexiest Man alive. In 1999, he won the award of the Sexiest Man of the Century.

Connery was married twice and dated several women in his life time including the actress, Julie Hamilton, who described him as the most beautiful thing she ever saw in her life!

He was married to actress Diane Cilento from 1962 to 1973 when they divorced. He subsequently married the Moroccan-French painter, Micheline Roquebrune from 1975.

The marriage survived the well-documented affair Connery had in the late eighties with the English songster, Lynsey de Paul.

Though he was the original James Bond, Connery came to hate the affiliation in later life saying that the character almost always overshadowed perception of him.

“[I am] fed up to here with the whole Bond bit”, he was quoted as saying, adding “I have always hated that damned James Bond. I’d like to kill him”

The cause of his death was not known though he had in recent years been living in retirement.
