TETfund To Expand UNILAG Accommodation With 2,000 Beds

The Tertiary Education Fund, TETfund is to facilitate the provision of 2,000 extra bed spaces in the University of Lagos, the chairman of the board of trustees of the fund, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam said on Monday at the beginning of the inspection of TETfund facilities in the university.

Ibrahim-Imam spoke as TETfund’s executive secretary, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro restated the determination of the intervention agency to boost academic profile of Nigerian universities through arming them with the required resources to publish journals, books and other research works.

Besides the accommodation for students, TETfund has also designated the University of Lagos as one of its centres of excellence in the country with the prospect of drawing more funds to the institution.

TETfund according to Ibrahim-Imam will also provide at least N1 billion for the development of the Urology and Kidney Centre in the institution.

The 2,000 extra bed spaces which is to provided in conjunction with the private sector will boost the present accommodation capacity of the school which is estimated at 7,000.

Taking into consideration the present realities as brought by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ibrahim-Imam also disclosed the readiness of TETfund to boost online learning.

He said:
“TETfund will collaborate with the universities and make the necessary investment to enhance e-learning in Nigerian universities.”

Ibrahim-Imam, the executive secretary, Prof Bogoro and the board members of the agency had earlier been welcomed by the acting vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folashade Ogunsola who while commending TETfund for its several interventions into the school asked for more support.

Other members of the TETfund board in team included Senator Ganiyu Solomon, GOS, Hon. Uche Ufearoh, Alhaji Mohammed Liman Ciroma and Dr. Fiepre Aprebo.
