Tinubu Camp Worried As EFCC Quizzes Fowler
The camp of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was believed to be in a worry on Monday following the interrogation of Babatunde Fowler, the immediate past chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the interrogation on Monday.
“He was invited to the commission and he responded today at our zonal office in Lagos,”
Mr. Uwujaren told online newspaper, Premium Times on Monday.
Mr Fowler, had before his stewardship at the FIRS served as the chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, for eight years.
He was appointed chairman of the FIRS following President Muhammadu Buhari’s inauguration in 2015.
His bid for a second term was, however, truncated following allegations that he failed to outperform the collections of the Goodluck Jonathan era.
The refusal to renew his term was seen in some circles as another blow to the Bola Tinubu political edifice following insinuations that he was recommended for the first appointment by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
However, some other sources trace his appointment to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Neither Tinubu nor Osinbajo has been linked to any misdemanour ono account of Fowler’s stewardship of the FIRS.
The worry for the Tinubu camp may be on account of the claim that his appointment was facilitated by the national leader of the APC.
