Lai Mohammed, Gov Abdulrazaq In Full War For Soul Of Kwara APC
A full-scale war between the camps of Lai Mohammed and Governor Abdulrhaman Abdulrazaq has broken out after fresh moves by the governor’s camp to remove the state party chairman, Hon. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, BOB.
The move which played out at a stakeholders’ parley on Thursday at Kwara Hotel had seen associates of the governor in the state exco read out a communique containing a resolution suspending Bolarinwa for alleged anti-party activities.
The move was immediately challenged by Bolarinwa and his supporters. The governor was said to have denied knowledge of the script when BOB allegedly walked up to him.
Thursday was not the first time that the governor’s camp would be going after Bolarinwa who has remained faithful to the minister of information and the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed tendency within the party.
Several other efforts had failed. However, GWG gathered that the latest move was an effort on the part of the governor’s camp to ensure that Bolarinwa does not superintend the forthcoming re-registration of party members believing that he would use the opportunity to further strengthen Lai Mohammed’s hold on the party structure.
Sources at Thursday’s stakeholders’ meeting revealed to GWG that the meeting which was meant to discuss party issues soon dragged into an inquisition of the party chairman as allegations of anti-party activities were raised against him by supporters of the governor.
A statement released following the meeting said that the motion for suspension was raised by a leader of the party from Kwara South, Rev. Abel Adewumi and was seconded by the Secretary of the party from Kiama, Alhaji Musa Baba Mohammed.
“You will recall that in 2018 he was picked as the caretaker chairman of the party when Dr. Bukola Saraki defected to the PDP. Unfortunately, he has being operating since then more or less like a sole administrator,” Adewumi was quoted as saying in the statement.
“Several efforts have been invested towards solving the crisis but it yielded no result as he was bent on sidelining other executive members of the party,” the statement issued by Alhaji Tajudeen Folaranmi Aro said.
Bolarinwa was quick to dismiss the assertion saying in a statement late on Thursday that there was no proper gathering of the exco that could have suspended him.
Speaking through his media aide, Ayo Abegunde, he said:
“News snipets emerging has it that the kwara state chairman of All Progressives Congress, Hon. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa has been removed from office. Nothing can be farther from the truth than this misleading concoction of fairy tales from moonlight.
“There was no gathering of proper persons who have the power and rights to undertake such a venture, so any allusion to his removal can be nothing but a figment of the imagination of these finger happy news mongers.
“Hon. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa remains the authentic and undisputable chairman of the APC in Kwara State and will remain so untill his constitutional tenure ends.”
