Nigerians React As NASS Okays Arms For FRSC

The news that operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC are to bear arms has placed Nigerians  on the edge in the wake of concerns of similar abuses by other paramilitary and military agencies.

Nigerians have in the past complained about extra-judicial killings by police and other  security agencies, a factor that spurred the recent #EndSARS protest.

News of the FRSC operatives bearing arms came during the budget defence of the FRSC before the House of Representatives Committee on FRSC on Thursday.

The Chairman of the committee, Akinfolarin Mayowa, stated that the 1992 Act of FRSC made the corps carry guns.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, applauded the development saying that there are too many risks on the road and some motorists threaten personnel on duty. Hence, weapon bearing for protection would curtail violent road users and protect officers.

Reacting to this development, some Nigerians took to the micro-blogging platform to kick against this initiative as there are too many security agencies that bear arms already. GWG brings some of their thoughts below:
