The report that the Canadian government has offered asylum to DJ Switch, the songwriter and musician who streamed the soldiers’ invasion of the Lekki Tollgate last October has been received with excitement on social media.
DJ Switch, real names Obianuju Catherine Udeh, carried out a live stream of the Lekki tollgate incident via her Instagram handle, on Tuesday, 20th October, 2020.
Soldiers were said to have invaded the Lekki tollgate area of Lagos State, on 20th October, 2020 and shot at unarmed protesters.
The incident stirred controversy on the casualty figures as there was no evidence on the number of persons shot dead by the soldiers.
After the incident, DJ Switch claimed that she saw over 15 dead bodies after the soldiers shot at the protesters and alleged that she had received dead threats due to her role in streaming the incident on Instagram.
