Lagos Govt To Stop Official Expenses On Tinubu

…Other Former Governors, Deputies Affected

The Lagos State Government is to stop the all the year maintenance of former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the state’s former civilian governors, the incumbent governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced on Tuesday.

Speaking when he presented a N1,155,022,413,005.82 estimated budget for 2021 to the state House of Assembly, the governor said the decision to stop the expenditure on the former governors was taken to conserve funds.

He said, “Mr. Speaker and Honourable Members of the House, in light of keeping the costs of governance low and to signal selflessness in public service, we will be sending a draft executive bill to the House imminently for the repeal of the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007), which provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former Governors and their Deputies.”

Under the existing law to be repealed the former governors are paid 100 percent of the basic salary of the incumbent governor, get a house in Lagos and Abuja, six cars every three years and all expenses paid; medical treatment for the governor and  members of his family.

They are also entitled to 300 per cent of their annual basic salary as furniture allowance, 10 percent as maintenance allowance, 20 per cent as utility allowance, and 30 per cent as car maintenance allowance.
