Lekki Shooting: What Sanwo-Olu Should Do – Okanlanwon
By Emmanuel Adigwe
Popular Nollywood actor, Deyemi Okalanwon, has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to speak the truth concerning the shooting of #EndSARS protesters at Lekki toll gate.
GWG recalls that soldiers opened fire on protesters in Lekki during the #EndSARS demonstrations leading to controversies over a casualty figure.
Governor Sanwo-Olu had initially denied not knowing who shot at the protesters but later confirmed that soldiers shot at them. The Nigerian Army had also stated initially that they were not at the venue of the protest but later disclosed that they came on the orders of the governor.
Reacting to this development, Okalanwon in an interview with Hiptv stated that Governor Sanwo-Olu should go beyond setting up a panel but tell Lagosians what actually happened at the Lekki toll gate.
He said: “Speaking directly to the governor of Lagos State, Jide Sanwo-Olu, although he has set up a panel against police brutality but there is an impending case where on the 20th of October there was an incident that was reported where people were injured and some killed in Lekki. Until we know the truth, until the truth comes out by the governor of Lagos State, it is his responsibility to tell us the truth about what happened.
“To bring all the evidence and footage of what happened so that we all see what happened that night. that is the only way we can really move forward.”
He lamented that setting up a panel for restitution without being truthful is like papering a cracked wall and he condemned lawmakers who tried to regulate social media.
GWG recalls that popular Nollywood actor and politician, Demond Elliot, had called for the regulation of social media.
However, Okanlown stated that politicians will not be politicians forever and it is not responsible for lawmakers to call for the regulation of social media as they won’t be lawmakers forever and social media is the only voice of the common man.
