APC replaced Uzodinma

By GWG Staff

All Progressives Congress, APC governors are queuing behind Senator Ifeanyi Ararume in his battle to emerge as the party’s candidate for the Imo North Senatorial bye-election against the desire of Governor Hope Uzodinma.

Governor Uzodinma is strongly pushing the aspiration of Ararume’s rival, Frank Ibezim to be the APC candidate for the election due on December 5.

Ararume recently won a court order affirming him as the APC candidate against the desire of Governor Uzodinma who has openly identified with Ibezim.

Ibezim, according to GWG sources is an ally of Emeka Nwajiuba, the minister of state for education who has also been a long-time political rival of Ararume in Imo North.

Governor Uzodinma’s opposition to Ararume’s return to the Senate it was gathered was essentially based on the political expediency that he didn’t want his two formidable rivals in the party (Senator Rochas Okorocha and Ararume) teaming up in Abuja to create problems for him in Imo State.

However, it has now emerged that Ararume may have won the support of the influential APC governors who it was gathered are backing him as a way of punishing Uzodinma for his past political indiscretion in supporting Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman.

Uzodinma was one of a few governors who backed Oshiomhole till he was removed as national chairman. When most governors absented themselves from the Edo governorship campaign and main election ostensibly to spite Oshiomhole, the Imo State governor took a different position by encamping in Benin for almost a week to the election.

The governor’s stance it was gathered may not have been out of place given Oshiomhole’s role in positioning Uzodinma as the party’s candidate in 2019 ahead of the permutations of the former governor of the state, Okorocha.

Apparently to hit back at Uzodinma, the APC governors according to sources have now thrown their weight behind Ararume. It was based on that that the Governor Mai Buni led National Caretaker Committee easily submitted his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as the party’s candidate for the Imo North Senatorial Election.

Ibezim is, however, still in court trying to win back the ticket.

Ibezim and Ararume had been declared winners of the primary at different primaries conducted by the APC Primary Election Committee which split itself into factions for the primary election.
