PDP Backs Oyetola In Faceoff With Aregbesola
In an ironic twist, the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday joined associates of Governor Gboyega Oyetola to caution the immediate past governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola to shelve his planned 10 anniversary of ‘progressive governance’ in the state.
The anniversary as planned by Aregbesola coincides with the second year anniversary of the Oyetola administration and there has been concern everywhere of a possible chaos during the two anniversaries.
The planned 10 year anniversary as planned by Aregbesola reportedly does not have the support of many associates of the governor and party stalwarts in the state who fear that it may be an opportunity to trigger conflict between supporters of the two men.
The rift between the two had widened with the reversal of some of the legacies of Aregbesola which were seen as unpopular by stakeholders in the state.
The PDP delved into the melee on Tuesday with a caution to Aregbesola to stay away from the state.
Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Diran Odeyemi in a statement to newsmen also asked security agents to stop the Interior Affairs minister from entering the state.
The statement read in part, “It is more than mere coincidence that Rauf Aregbesola decided to mark 10 years of his administration on the very day his successor Oyetola wanted to celebrate his 2nd year administration. It is obviously meant to test power and popularity with the use of thugs and hooligans.”
