Enugu LG Boss Mocked Over Billboard For Accident Victims

Published

on

By Emmanuel Adigwe

The Local Government Chairman of Agwu in Enugu State, Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo, has come under criticism for putting up a huge billboard to mourn victims of last month’s tragic school bus crash.

The billboard, however, showed him laughing!

GWG recalls that eight pupils of Presentation Nursery and Primary school died in an auto crash  in Awgu, a town in Enugu.

A Facebook user, Sen. Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, who shared the picture, enjoined the LG Chairman to remove it as the picture which showed the LG chairman laughing, appeared insensitive to some.

Sen. Chijinkem Ugwuanyi wrote: “If you know this local government chairman from Awgu Local Government council in Enugu West called Hon. Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo, pls tell him to remove this immediately.”

Reacting to this, other social media users berated the LG Chairman for the billboard.

One Marcellus Ejiofor Nnadi said that whoever put up the billboard deserves serious beating.

Odumegu wrote: “This one weak me. A whole local govt chairman announcing his ignorance on billboard with total address down to his political identity.”

Anthony Tansi wrote: “It is too bad to place this kind of billboard, smiling and claiming to be mourning.”

Ugochukwu Victor Brounc wrote: “What is the meaning of this. Very soon he will mention the money he used to do this. And again must he use our governor’s picture on it? He better removes it.”

Eze Heroshema Chukwunonso wrote: “Hahahahaha Enugu State Government and Awgu local government is mourning the children that died in motor accident.”

Pascal Echezona wrote: “I don’t understand. Is he trying to say that himself and the Governor are the victims of the accident?”

Nkiruka Frances Omeje wrote: “Are they also the victims. Abi na grammar blunder, what a shameful bill board and they forgot to add ENUGU IS IN THE HANDS OF GOD.”

Chrisemmy Odumegwu wrote: “This one weak me, a whole local government chairman announcing his ignorance on billboard with his total address down to his political identity. Honestly am speechless.”

Popular Lagos Pastor Lands In Jail For Raping Two Church Members

One Daniel Oluwafeyiropo, a clergyman, has been remanded for allegedly raping two of his church members (names withheld).

Justice Ramon Oshodi of Ikeja Sexual offences and Domestic Violence Court gave the other to remand the clergyman on Monday

According to reports, the founder of “I Reign Christian Ministry” will be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions.

Oshodi admitted the defendant to N20 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

He said one of the sureties must be the owner of a build-up property in Lagos State and the property must be enough to cover the bail sum.

“The original document of the landed property must be submitted to the chief registrar of Lagos State.

“The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must have three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State,” he said.

The judge also ordered the defendant to deposit his international passport with the chief registrar of the court and ordered accelerated hearing of the case.

Oshodi adjourned the case until May 9 for trial.

Earlier, the defence counsel, Mr Olukunle Oyewole, while moving his bail application dated April 10, urged the court to grant bail to the defendant on liberal terms.

Oyewole argued that the defendant had been on police administrative bail since May 20, 2022 and had made himself available to the police.

“The offence for which he is charged with is a bailable offences and he has credible sureties that can stand for him,” he said.

The state’s lead prosecution counsel, Mr Babjide Boye, in his counter affidavit dated April 14, urged the court to refuse the bail application of the defendant, however, left it at the discretion of the court.

Boye, however, argued that the offence was a serious one and the likelihood of conviction might put the defendant at flight risk.

“There is also a possibility of the defendant interfering with the prosecution witnesses.

“He is a bishop of so many branches and if granted bail, he may use his position to influence the prosecution witnesses as he is regarded as a man of authority who has the possibility of committing same crime.

“We urge the court to deny the defendant bail because he has failed to provide the court exceptional circumstances to grant him bail,” the prosecutor submitted.

Oluwafeyiropo, was earlier arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on rape.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly committed the offences sometime in June 2020 on Ikota Villa Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offence contravened Sections 260 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested four people in connection with the disappearance of the body of Joel Omiran, 86, from the Sacred Heart Hospital Mortuary in Lantoro, Abeokuta, the state capital.

According to sources, the octogenarian died at the hospital a month ago after being rushed there for treatment.

On Saturday, a source said that the deceased’s body was kept at the mortuary by his family shortly after he died.

According to the source, the deceased’s children examined the body three weeks ago and discovered it to be in good condition.

The source explained that the children later notified the hospital management of their plan to take away the body for burial.

Trouble, however, started when the family got to the mortuary, having paid the requisite fees, but could not find the body.

“Every effort to get the body proved abortive,” the source added.

The four persons arrested were two mortuary attendants, an auditor and a plumber.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

Oyeyemi said, “Yes, we are aware that the body of an 86-year-old man, Joel Omiran, was missing in the Sacred Heart Hospital Mortuary, Abeokuta.

“We have commenced an investigation. The State CID, Eleweran, has taken over the case.

Four suspects have been held: two mortuary attendants, one auditor and a plumber.

“The police held the plumber because we heard that a few days to the incident, he helped the attendants to break the door to the mortuary when the keys to the doors were misplaced. We made the arrest on Thursday.”
