INEC: YDP Dissociates From Parties In Solidarity With Yakubu

Published

on

The Young Democratic Party, YDP has strongly dissociated itself with the solidarity by a number of political parties with Prof. Mahmud Yakubu on his screening for a second term as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The national chairman of the party, Mrs. Georgina Dakpokpo in a series of tweets in dissociating her party from parties that expressed solidarity with Yakubu during his Senate screening said:

It has just been brought to my attention that some individuals were at the National Assembly today in solidarity with Prof. Yakubu for his screening exercise for the position of INEC Chairman.

To Whom It May Concern:

The Young Democratic Party (YDP)& I were not a part of this action because it our firm belief that a Political Party should not be reduced to canvassing support for an INEC Chairman who is supposed to be an unbiased actor in our Elections.

Aside from the recent Elections in Edo and Ondo, the general elections presided over by the Prof has been fraught with court cases, a distinct sign of the animosity & distrust that greeted the general elections, over which he presided.

I implore the members of the Senate to kindly overcome the pull of personal interests to National interests.
