Kalu Pushing Ikpeazu’s Defection For Fame – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State has rebuffed claims by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on the imminent defection of Governor Okeize Ikpeazu.

Kalu had during a recent condolence visit to a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chukwudi Apugo claimed that Governor Ikpeazu promised to defect to the APC after the conclusion of his court case.

He said:

“We are waiting for Ikpeazu unless he changes his mind. One of my friends, a top security czar in Nigeria told me that when Ikpeazu was going for his first Supreme Court judgement, he promised  that he would go to APC.”

Ikpeazu has not responded to the claim.

But the Abia State chapter of the PDP in its reaction accused the former governor of trying to get cheap popularity with his claim.

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Abia PDP, Chief Fabian Nwankwo, the party called on “Abia people and PDP loyalists to ignore the rumour peddlers with their falsehood and sustain their support for the Governor to remain focused in the delivery of democratic dividends to the people. The false information is a mere attempt to achieve cheap popularity.”

The party said it has so much confidence in Governor Ikpeazu and that he had never considered leaving the party for the APC.

The PDP rather charged Senator Kalu to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to get his acts together and tackle the security and economic challenges facing the country.
