Electricity supply to a substantial proportion of consumers had been cut off on Sunday following the collapse of the national electricity grid.

The grid collapsed at about 11.26 a.m.

GWG could confirm that the Kaduna Electric which supplies most of the Southwest, and Eko Electricity Distribution Company which supplies about half of the electricity consumers in Lagos had notified their customers of the collapse.

Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company which supplies the other half of Lagos was yet to notify its consumers if it was similarly affected but GWG checks revealed that customers in the area were as Sunday afternoon without electricity supply.

Kaduna Electric, in a message to its customers via its Twitter handle, said,

Eko in a text message to its customers said:

“Dear customer, there is a system collapse on the national grid. Supply will be restored as soon as the issue is resolved. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

The national grid is managed by the Federal Government owned Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.
