Omo-Agege’s Education Revolution Is What Nigeria Needs

The Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege must have read the 1952 book of the foremost parliamentarian and nationalist, Adegoke Adelabu A. Adelabu of Ibadan.

In his book of revolutionary thoughts and ideas, elegantly titled; Africa in Ebullition: Being A Handbook of Freedom for Nigerian Nationalists, Adelabu declared thus; “education is the foundation of freedom. Ignorance is the basis of slavery. If you would free a people, first and foremost, educate them…”.

Adelabu’s declaration clearly underscores and recognises the primacy and importance of education for national development and transformation, and it brings to mind the aphorism of the great thinker, Francis Bacon (1909-1992), when he says, “Knowledge is power “.

The gains of education is not lost in Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. There is a common saying among folks that there is nothing like education. Common as the above statement may seem, the benefits that comes with education are unquantifiable.
