Alleged Rapist To Spend New Year In Jail

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a 24-year-old, Ajibade Wasiu, at the Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti for alleged rape.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for alleged rape.

The prosecutor, Insp. Bankole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 27, at Ikole-Ekiti.

Olasunkanmi alleged that the defendant conspired to rape an 18-year-old girl.

He said the offence contravened Sections 516 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecutions.

The plea of the defendant was not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, ordered the remand of the defendant at the Correctional Centre, pending issuance of legal advice.

He adjourned the case until Jan.19, 2021 for mention.
