The board of FCMB is to immediately investigate the sex scandal involving the bank’s managing director, Adam Nuru, and a former female staff that is fueling angst against Nigeria’s first indigenous bank across social media.

The bank’s investigation follows a rage on social media that Mr. Nuru’s dalliances with the former staff, Ms. Moyo Thomas contributed to the death of her husband, Mr. Tunde Thomas.

Ms. Thomas is alleged to have carried on an open relationship with Mr. Nuru and that her two children were conceived by Mr. Nuru but passed on to her husband.

Mr. Thomas was alleged to have suffered a stroke after his wife relocated to the United States and from there passed on a message to him that her two children were conceived by Nuru.

The story has fired strong passion on social media with Nigerians canvassing the sack of Mr. Nuru.

More than 400 persons have signed a petition for the sack of Nuru.

In the petition addressed to Godwin Emefiele, CBN governor, and the FCMB’s board, the petitioners stated that the case is “an unjustifiable economic oppression by the elites against the less privileged in the society”.

The petition stated that a thorough investigation into the matter, adding that the MD had been trying to sweep the “unethical conduct” under the carpet.

The petition read: “This is a case of gross misconduct based on ethical grounds and an unjustifiable economic oppression by the elites (Adam Nuru) against the less privileged in the society.

“The MD has been doing everything possible to sweep this case under the carpet. We implore the Central Bank of Nigeria as the apex regulator and the board of FCMB to investigate this for the integrity of the bank and Nigerian banking industry.”

Making its first reaction, the bank in a statement said that a probe by the bank’s board would be immediately triggered.

The unsigned statement read thus:

“We are aware of several stories circulating across several media platforms about our bank’s Managing Director Adam Nuru, a former employee Ms Moyo Thomas and her deceased ex husband, Mr Tunde Thomas.

“While this is a personal matter the tragedy of the death of Mr Tunde Thomas and the allegations of unethical conduct, require the banks board to conduct a review of what transpired, any violations of our code of ethics and the adequacy of these code of conduct ethics. This will be done immediately.”

“We enjoin all our stakeholders to bear with us as we conduct this review and to please respect the various families involved.”

This development has sparked reactions on social media as some social media users took to the micro-blogging platform to call out the bank asking for a thorough investigation. GWG brings some of their views below:
