The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP gave clue as to the alleged forgery hanging on the neck of Godwin Obaseki, the Federal High Court heard on Monday.

The development came as the court asked the governor to start his defence of the certificate forgery case instituted against him from Tuesday. This came after the APC and its chieftain, Willie Edobor finished their case on Monday.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court Abuja who gave Obaseki the order had earlier heard witnesses of the plaintiff claim among others that Obaseki had in 2016 reported that his University of Ibadan certificate was missing.

The PW-5, Engineer Gabriel Iduseri, the incumbent South South zonal youth leader of the APC in his testimony told the court that Obaseki’s present party, the PDP had challenged the authenticity of the governor’s certificate in 2016 when the governor contested on the platform of the APC.

According to him the PDP gave clue of the alleged inconsistencies in the governor’s documentations.

He submitted a copy of the court papers with suit number FHC/B/CS/124/2016, to buttress his claim that the PDP did not originally believe in the authenticity of the governor’s university certificate.

He said that Obaseki won that case on technicality after the time for  suit elapsed.

According to him Obaseki in 2016, submitted an affidavit of loss of certificate to INEC.

After him the APC’s sixth witness, PW-6, Dr. Mikano Asekome, an Associate Professor in Banking and Finance Department at Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, who graduated from the University of Ibadan in1978 also tendered the original copy of his certificate.

Before then, PW-4, Mr. Raphael Onwuzuligbo, a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police and a forensic document examiner had looked at Obaseki’s certificate and expressed ignorance of the orgin.

He said: “I don’t know who certified it, but on the face of the document there is Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

“I don’t know the origin of the document”, the witness deposed.
