7 Die As Nigeria Records Highest Daily New Cases

NCDC update for January 4, 2021

Seven persons died on Monday as Nigeria recorded the highest daily new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, January 4, 2021.

1204 new cases of the pandemic were recorded in 20 states and the FCT according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

The highest case was reported in Lagos with 654 new cases followed by the FCT with 200 and Plateau with 60 new cases.

The development brought the total number of cases diagnosed in the country to 91,351 confirmed with 75,699 discharged and 1,318 deaths.

As Nigeria recorded its highest daily new cases, there is concern about the low testing figures in the country as compared to contemporaries.

Nigeria testing on the average of 1.48 persons per thousand compared with South Africa with 50 per thousand, Ghana 13 per thousand and Kenya 6 per thousand.
