Govt Gives New Twist To Kaduna Sex Party Story

The authorities have given a new twist to the Kaduna Sex party story with the Kaduna Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) making a U-turn for its demolition of Asher Restaurant, Sabo Kaduna.

Asher Restaurant was claimed by one of the organisers as the venue for the sex party and for which the government. The disclosure immediately led the authorities to demolish the building.

However, the government in the latest twist to the Kaduna sex party story said the demolition of the restaurant was because the building housing the restaurant was not approved by the agency.

Last week, the agency announced the demolition of Asher Restaurant in the Sabon Tesha area of the state.

The agency, in a tweet, on December 31, 2020, stated that  the demolition of the hotel was a result of a sex party to be allegedly held at the hotel, adding that the proposed sex party violated the state COVID-19 protocols.

However, the flyer attached to the tweet, indicating the details of the sex party, did not state the venue of the party.

Reacting, Aisha Mercy Yakubu, chief executive officer (CEO) of Asher Kings & Queens Restaurant, said there was no sex party proposed at the hotel, adding that she will seek redress over the demolition.

The Kaduna state government was heavily criticised, especially on the social media for demolition of the property over a sex party flyer which did not state the venue for the part.

But reacting, in the latest twist to the Kaduna sex party story, the agency, in a statement, on Tuesday signed by Ismail Umaru Dikko, its director-general, said the commentary that the hotel was demolished as a result of the alleged sex party was “inaccurate”, admitting that it was its social media handler at fault.

KASUPA said: “Since this enforcement action, much of the commentary on the matter has centred on the inaccurate statement from KASUPDA’s Twitter account.

“While regretting the inaccuracy of the handler of our social media account, there is no reservation about the steps taken pursuant to enforce the laws and regulations of Kaduna State on a property that was in violation of its provisions.”

KASUPDA noted that the alleged sex party proposed at the venue violated COVID-19 regulations, saying that it drew its attention to “examine the status of the building”.

The agency said that after its “checks of government records” showed that the demolished hotel did not have “neither a valid title nor development”, stressing that there was no need for “notification requirements”.

The agency said: “Indications that an activity in violation of the Covid regulations was planned to be held in Asher Lounge drew attention to the property and made it necessary to examine the status of the building.

“Checks of government records showed that the building housing Asher Lounge has neither a valid title nor development permit. Once due diligence revealed the illegal status of the building, there was need for enforcement action without the notification requirements that the law compels for holders of valid title and development permits.”
