NDDC cash cow

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, has opened up on the rumour that he collected bribe from the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio. The alleged Akpabio bribe was allegedly to facilitate the appointment of a Sole Administrator for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

The allegation is on the claim that Malami gave legal cover for the appointment of a Sole Administrator for the NDDC against the prescriptions of the act establishing the intervention agency.

Responding for the first time on the issue in a statement on Friday, January 15, 2021 the AGF in a statement traced the allegation to mischief makers who he said were bent on ruining his reputation.

While expressing his determination to surrender himself to investigation if the rumour peddlers come out with evidence of the bribe, Malami while calling on Nigerians to disregard the rumours, asked individuals who have any information on those who “facilitated, accepted, delivered or took part in one way or the other in the alleged offer and purported acceptance of gratification for him or his office to come out publicly with the information with a view to exposing them and taking further necessary action.

Noting that the alleged Akpabio bribe would amount to a criminal deed, he, accordingly, encouraged the purveyors of the fictitious publication to approach relevant security and law enforcement agencies and proffer information that could lead to the criminal investigation and investigation against him if they feel strongly about their purported claim”.
