More fireworks over the purported 2024 Edo Esan Agenda was at the weekend stoking in Edo State after a leading chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Okharedia Ihimekpen countered a major ally of Governor Godwin Obaseki on the issue.

Ihimekpen on behalf of Rainbow Caucus Association hit at Charles Idahosa, one of the leading supporters of Obaseki’s second term aspiration over his claim that there was nothing like an Esan Agenda in 2024.

GWG had reported Idahosa’s dismissal of the agenda saying that there was nothing like that discussed in Governor Obaseki’s solicitation of the votes of Edo Central for the 2019 governorship election.

“Godwin Obaseki, as APC governor, had a soft spot for Esan and always believed that there should be fairness in everything and not because he went to the PDP. An agenda that after Obaseki, it would be Esan; nothing like that was discussed in all the meetings that were held,” Idahosa had said.

But responding in a statement at the weekend, Ihimekpen who is president of the Rainbow Caucus said that Idahosa who served as Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s political adviser for eight years was not qualified to speak on the issue.

Speaking on the Edo Esan Agenda, he said Idahosa could not even speak for his local government.

He said “Idahosa should learn from people like Owere Dickson Imasogie, Senator Roland Owie, Senator Daisy Danjuma and several other known leaders of Uhunmwonde to help give in him some refresher courses as the PDP is a leadership party of men of integrity and charisma.

“I am one of the founding members of the PDP since 1998 and out of the nine of us that held the first meeting; I am the only one that has not crossed to any other party.

“Where he is now, is not APC that you make cynical and sardonic remarks to your leaders and constituted authority.

“Governor Obaseki is not coming back for a third term, he should be careful of political scavengers.

On 2024, Ihimekpen said “The chances of Edo Central are very bright, they have the manpower, they have the political will, they are daring and they are very consistent. If you want to talk about PDP in Edo state, it is Edo Central that you will talk about they have been very consistent and from that consistency, they will get it.

“The chances of Edo Central producing the next governor is very bright especially now that they are more resilient and daring to die and sink with the PDP. They have been there since 1998,” he affirmed.
