Igboho Will Be Arrested – Presidency

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu has directed the commissioner of police in Oyo State to effect the arrest of the famed Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunda Igboho. Igboho will be arrested for giving the Fulani a quit order against the grains of the law, according to the presidency.

He is to be ferried to Abuja and prosecuted for giving the Fulani in Oyo State an ultimatum to leave the state.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu revealed the development according to BBC Hausa.

According to the BBC news report, Mallam Shehu said he had just spoke to the IGP who said that he had given a directive to the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko, to immediately arrest Igboho and transfer him to Abuja.

“Garba said he just got off the telephone with the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police, who confirmed to him that he had ordered the arrest of Igboho, who is to be brought to Abuja.

“Garba Shehu said the order given by the Inspector General of Police, for now, is that Igboho should be arrested and brought to Abuja to be taken to court to face prosecution.”

Igboho, a grassroots politician, had following the disturbances between the Fulani and the indigenes in Oke Ogun area of Oyo State which arose from the spate of kidnappings had asked herdsmen in Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State to leave within seven days, saying that they were responsible for the insecurity in the area.

The crisis in Oyo State also mirrored the crisis in Ondo State where Governor Rotimi Akeredolu last week also asked herdsmen in the state’s forest reserves to leave the forest within seven days.

GWG reports that the order by the governor has drawn disparate reactions around the polity. While Yoruba activists have lauded the action, the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF among Northern groups have faulted the order.
