Achsah, Israel’s Bold But Self-Effacing First Lady

And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim. And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died. Judges 3:10-11.

Othniel became the first Judge of the new nation and through him the land had rest for forty years after he defeated that powerful king of Mesopotamia.

The fact that the land was at peace may be adduced to the fact that Othniel as Judge was able to lead from the front and was a strong warrior.

But we will not forget that he was at one time slippery in business decisions like when his new wife Achsah asked him to ask her dad for the land with springs of water. Judges 1:14-15.

At such times, his wife entered the fray helped her husband and quickly withdrew.

So Othniel had a strong wife that backed him to the extent that he was able to achieve God’s purpose for his life.

So even if we hear of Judge Othniel giving Israel peace for forty years, there was a woman working from the background.

She was purposeful in business, shrewd in looking out for what was good for her family and making good decisions that would yield profit for her family.

May God give us such First Ladies from the LGAs to the presidency of our nations across the world that will give our leaders the marital stability to guide our leaders into good decisions. (Or is it Gentlemen? A la Kemala Harris?)

But whatever, Othniel and Achsah started small until God promoted them to become the First Family.

Beloved, may God kerp you faithful in your little corner today till God brings you to your point of fulfillment.
