Aisha Yesufu, Others Question Army Chief’s Ability
By Emmanuel Adigwe
Reports about the stewardship of the new chief of army staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru as a theatre commander of Operaiton Lafiya Dole are drawing reactions from Nigerians on, his suitability in his new position. The focus is on the army chief’s ability.
According to reports, the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Buratai, removed General Attahiru as the commander of Operation Lafiya Dole for his ineffectiveness.
His recent emergence as the Chief of Army Staff as such became a surprise for those who were made to believe the claim. To them, they wondered why an army officer not fit to be a theatre commander would be made a Chief of Army Staff.
Reacting, a Twitter user, identified as Shehu Zubairu, questioned the competence of General Attahiru. He wrote: “General I. Attahiru one of the worst if not the worst theatre commander Operation Lafiya Dole ever had. Now Chief Of Army Staff. General Leo Irabor one of the best if not the best theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Now the Chief Of Defence Staff with No army to command.”
Reacting, Aisha Yesufu stated that competence was not considered in the appointment of General Attahiru.
She wrote: “It is just unbelievable how we tend to reward incompetence and punish competence.”
GWG gathered a few thoughts on the issue concerning the army chief’s ability.
