Amosun's men dumped APM For APC

All Seven members of the Ogun State House of Assembly belonging to the Allied People’s Movement (APM)under the patronage of Senator Ibikunle Amosun on Thursday defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). But questions as to why Amosun’s men dumped APM for APC were being traced to the forthcoming registration exercise of the ruling party.

The lawmakers announced their defection in separate letters read by the Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo (APC – Ifo1) during a plenary in Abeokuta.

Those who defected were the Minority Leader, Ganiyu Oyedeji (Ifo 11);  Musefiu Lamidi (Ado-Odo/Ota 11); Yusuf Amosun (Ewekoro);  Sikiratu Ajibola (Ipokia); Bolanle Ajayi (Yewa South); Adeniran Ademola (Sagamu 11) and Modupe Mujota-Onikepo (Abeokuta North).

The lawmakers said in their letters that they decided to join the APC after due consultations with their leaders and supporters.

In his response, the speaker congratulated them for joining the ruling party.

He remarked that it was important to come together for the betterment of the state.

Oluomo appealed to other minority members in the House to also take the bold step and join the ruling party.

With the development out of the 26 members of the House, APC now has 22, PDP, one and ADC, three.

GWG reports that the APM was the platform used by the immediate past governor of the state to further the political interest of his allies following the division in the APC ahead of the 2019 General Election when the Aremo Segun Osoba led tendency fell out with Amosun group. The highpoint of the faceoff was when President Muhammadu Buhari came to campaign in the state and there was a fracas at the venue.

Associates of Amosun as a result were compelled to use the platform of the APM to achieve their political aspirations.

Amosun himself, however, contested his election to the Senate on the platform of the APC.

GWG reports that the speculations as to why Amosun’s men dumped APM for APC is bound to focus on their bid to take front positions in the APC ahead of the ruling party’s registration and validation of membership exercise which is bound to commence next week.
