Ayodele Fayose has given his reason for boycotting Wednesday’s peace meeting that was held to reconcile him and his group with Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. The former Ekiti State governor explained he could not sit with Makinde on the same table.

The former Ekiti State governor and his supporters were conspicuously missing at the meeting despite the presence of the mediators led by Governor Nyesom Wike and other top chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Fayose is allegedly peeved by the support Makinde is said to have shown towards his PDP adversaries in Ekiti State, notably Senator Biodun Olujimi among others.

Among those who had gathered for the peace meeting at the Government House, Ibadan were Wike, former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former Ekiti State Governor, Mr Segun Oni,  Makinde. Also present was Olujimi.

However, Fayose and his supporters were conspicuously absent.

Fayose speaking through his media aide, Lere Olayinka told The Punch why he was absent saying he could not sit with Makinde.

“Fayose did not attend the meeting. Those invited from the other side said they were not going to be part of the meeting. They said they did not want to go to the Government House or sit on the same table with Governor Makinde.

“The impression as at yesterday (Wednesday) was that the meeting would be shifted but I believe Governor Wike just came to attend it for formality sake.

“One thing is that nothing can be achieved without the other side at the meeting.”
