New focus on the alleged mass shooting during the breakdown of the Lekki Toll Gate demonstration by soldiers on October 20, 2021 was being raised on social media at the weekend following new testimony of people with gun shot wounds being treated in Reddington Hospital, Lagos.

The outcry followed testimony by a doctor at Reddington Hospital that a number of persons with gunshot wounds were brought to the hospital. His testimony contradicted claims by the military and civil authorities that firearms were not used in breaking down the protest.

GWG reports that the #EndSARS protest was about the greatest challenge to civil rule in the country by peaceful demonstrators since the advent of the Muhammadu Buhari administration in 2015

Youths across the country had protested police brutality, extortion and extra-judicial killings with demonstrations in some of the country’s largest cities.

The protest, however, took a new dimension after hoodlums hijacked the protest burning police stations and public buildings. To curtail widespread violence, the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, declared a state of emergency in Lagos State but the protesters at the Lekki toll gate refused to leave and soldiers came in and opened fire on them.

While the authorities claimed that the breakdown of the Lekki Toll Gate protest did not lead to any loss of life, many countered.

Popular disc Jockey, Catherine Udeh aka DJ Switch, who did a live stream during the attack, stated that she counted at least 15 corpses. DJ Switch has since relocated to Canada saying that her life became endangered in Nigeria following her revelations.

However, the recent disclosure by Babajide Lawson, a surgeon at the trauma and orthopedic department at Reddington Hospital has set social media abuzz.

Lawson, who appeared before the EndSARS enquiry in Lagos in response to an application by #EndSARS protesters’ lawyer, Mr Adesina Ogunlana, testified that he personally treated six of the patients that night.

He said from the next day, the number of patients tripled.

The disclosure made by Reddington Hospital doctor has caused social media reaction and GWG gathered some of them below:
