How An Undisciplined Arsenal Side Lost To Wolves

An undisciplined Arsenal side lost to Wolves a game they were initially dominating at the Molinuex Stadium on Tuesday.

Arsenal were shown two red cards as they were edged out 2-1 by Wolves. Acts of indiscipline by David Luiz at the end of the first half and Bernd Leno in the 72nd minute meant that Arsenal finished a game where they started brightly with nine men.

Mikel Arteta’s men asked all the questions of the Wolves defense during the early proceedings as Bukayo Saka was through on goal within the first thirty seconds, however, his perilous strike rattled the woodwork.

Saka was again on song in the third minute but his shot from inside the box was comfortably saved by Rui Patricio in goal for Wolves.

An adventurous Saka was about to shout for joy in the ninth minute when he found the back of the net. But, his goal was chalked off as Alexandre Lacazette was adjudged to be offside during the build up to the goal.

A 22nd minute Nelson Semendo effort was pushed away by Bernd Leno before Nicolas Pepe scored a goal of individual brilliance in the 32nd minute to put Arsenal in the driving seat.

The hitherto castigated Ivorian winger dribbled past Semendo and Ruben Neves, then curled the ball into Patricio’s net.

Afterwards, David Luiz was given his marching orders after obstructing a Wolves attack into the box and in the process, causing a penalty incident.

That was a huge twist in the tale of the match as Ruben Neves stepped up to convert the spot-kick instinctively. Neves’ leveller was the last action of the first half.

Coming out of the tunnel, Mikel Arteta made a defensive substitution by taking off Lacazette in place of Gabriel to cover the loophole at the back.

Portuguese midfield maestro Joao Moutinho scored a majestic goal from midfield to turn the game around and put Arsenal in a state of sixes and sevens.

With Arsenal trailing, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who had not been in action for some games was introduced. His presence couldn’t produce a goal as the Gunners continued chasing, until Bernd Leno’s miscalculated usage of his hand instead of his head outside the box compelled the referee to brandish a red card to him in the 72nd minute.

The undisciplined Arsenal side lost to Wolves the momentum after the second red card.

The numerical disadvantage for the demoralized Arsenal outfit did Wolves a significant gain as they registered another win over the Gunners for the second time in the Premier League this season.
