Sunday Igboho arrest

Supporters of Nigerian activist and Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, have in just 24 hours, reportedly raised N7.2 million (£14,024) via a GoFundMe fundraiser, out of a target of N51.8 million (£100,000). The money was raised for Igboho to buy buses.

Igboho had earlier on Wednesday, requested for buses to aid in transporting his men from one place to another, during a virtual town hall meeting. “I need buses to transport people. The three vans we use are bought by me. We lost three buses that were hired on our way to Oyo.” Igboho was quoted as saying.

Following his request, Maureen Badejo, a blogger and activist based in the United Kingdom, initiated a GoFundMe fundraiser, garnering a massive £14,024 (N7.2m) within 24hours.

Igboho’s request comes following his project of ridding the South-West of killer herdsmen. So far, about 261 people have made a donation. A visit to the Gofundme page also shows that several persons making donations are of the Yoruba extraction.

Oluseyi Soledolu who gave £10, wrote, “I donated for a good cause”. Another donor, Sidikat Tope Olufowobi after donating £200 said: “I donated because I am a Yoruba woman and want peace in my part of the country”.

The spotlight has continued to beam on Igboho since he issued a seven-day ultimatum to herders in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State, blaming them for kidnappings, killings, destruction of farmland and insecurity in the state.

According to him, the fight to liberate the Yoruba and bring lasting peace is not for the police but for all Yoruba people, irrespective of where they are all over the world.

Badejo, the organiser of Igboho’s fundraiser, reportedly gave her location as Luton Town in England.
