How APGA Won House Of Rep Seat In Niger

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, won a House of Reps seat in Niger State on Saturday in the absence of the All Progressives Congress, APC which was barred from participating in the poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Shehu Sale, candidate of APGA as winner of the Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger in the bye-election called to fill the seat following the annulment of the election first won by Kassimu Danjuma of the APC.

Explaining how APGA won the House of Reps seat in Niger, the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Tanko Baba of the Usman Danfodio University Sokoto, said Sale scored 22,965 votes to defeat Alamu Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who came second with 22,507 votes.

Baba said Yusuf Nasir, the candidate of the ADC, polled 336 votes.

Only three parties were allowed in the re-run election that followed the court judgment that excluded the All Progressives Congress, APC. The APC had through Kasimu Danjuma won the election first conducted on March 4, 2020 but the election was annulled upon claims that he submitted forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The court had as such excluded the APC from fielding a candidate for the re-run election.

Explaining how APGA won the house of Representatives election, Prof. Baba said that the total number of registered voters was 159,347, while the number of accredited voters was 46,734, with 45,808 valid votes, total votes cast 46,499 and rejected votes 691.

Meanwhile, Prof. Samuel Egwu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Niger on Sunday, commended the electorate in the constituency for their peaceful conduct during and after the election.

Egwu also lauded efforts of the police for providing a peaceful political atmosphere before and during the electoral process in the area.
