APC Halts Delta Registration After Keyamo’s Protest

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended its membership registration/revalidation exercise in Delta. This came after Festus Keyamo’s protest against the process he claimed was skewed.

The state APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Sylvester Imonina, announced the suspension in a statement on Thursday in Asaba.

GWG reports that the development follows strong reservations by some leading stakeholders in the party including Keyamo that one leader of the party had taken control of the process after only people from his camp were appointed as Local Government Area coordinators.

Though Keyamo’s protest letter did not mention the name, it was generally alleged that stakeholders from the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege had taken the two positions of Local Government Area for most of the Local Government Areas.

“The Delta APC Chapter hereby formally announces to teeming party faithful that following pockets of complaints, the National Caretaker Committee of the party has deemed it necessary to suspend membership registration/revalidation exercise in the state.

“Though, the party is aware that members of the public and party faithful were in high spirit and were looking forward to taking APC to a higher level by mobilising all and sundry who believe in the party for the exercise.

“Unfortunately, the expectation of party faithful had been put on hold for no fault of theirs. In fact, the suspension of the exercise came when it was least expected.

“As at Feb. 9, supervisors to man the 25 Local Government Areas (LGAs) had been trained while preparations were on for the training of those to man the wards and units levels on Feb. 10 and Feb. 11,” he said.

Though the did not cite Keyamo’s protest it was believed that the decision was a direct fall out of the issues raised by the minister of state for labour and productivity.

The latest development follows the faceoff between 2019 governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru and the chairman of the state caretaker committee, Prophet Jones Erue. Ogboru had petitioned the national leadership that Erue was marginalizing stakeholders not aligned to him in the conduct of the exercise.

Erue on the other part fired back accusing Ogboru of betraying the party and causing problems with unspent donations from the 2019 election.
