New Couple Flee As Police Nab Event Centre Owner

A new husband and wife escaped arrest after the event centre at John Ogunnaike Street, Ikeja, Lagos where they held their wedding reception was sealed for going contrary to restrictions aimed at checking the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country.

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), Mr Boss Mustapha, recently announced new restrictions amidst the rising cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country.

The new restrictions include the closure of all bars, nightclubs, pubs and event centres, as well as recreational venues in all states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

All restaurants were also directed to close, except those providing services to hotel residednts, takeaways, home deliveries, and drive-ins. Similarly, all open and formal festivity events, including weddings, conferences, congresses, office parties, concerts, seminars, sporting activities, end of year events, have been limited to not more than 50 people.

The government also restricted all parties linked to religious events to less than 50 per cent of the capacity of the facility of use which physical distancing and use of face masks should be strictly enforced.

The Police said the wedding party was attended by more than 300 guests.

However, approval was granted for 100 guests, outdoor, not indoor.

The wedding organizers were also arrested by Lagos CP, Hakeem Odumosu who led his men.
