571 New COVID-19 Cases In Nigeria On Tuesday

571 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria emerged on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reported.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the report published on the NCDC Twitter handle brought the total number of infections in the country to 153,187 confirmed cases out of which 129,943 were treated and discharged.

12 deaths over the period according to the NCDC report also brought the total number of deaths arising from the pandemic to 1,874 deaths since the pandemic arrived in Nigeria nearly a year ago.

According to the NCDC report, the 571 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria were reported in 20 states and the FCT with Lagos State having the highest number of new cases at 170.

Ogun with 65 new cases and FCT with 45 new cases follow in that order.

In the period under review the total number of cases is as follows:

Meanwhile, in Edo State, efforts by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led state government to contain the spread of the second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) have continued to yield gains as the state records a gradual decline in the number of infections and active cases.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this during a virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

With 571 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, Dr. Obi, however, noted that Edo State recorded 50 new recoveries with 669 active cases that are being managed at various treatment and isolation centres in the state. That was as at the time he briefed on Tuesday.

According to him, “Edo State, on the back of nuanced measures to tackle the second wave of the pandemic, is recording a drastic reduction in the number of infections, deaths and active cases. In the last 24 hours, we recorded 50 more recoveries, five new cases with no death from COVID-19.
