Senate Confirms Bawa As EFCC Chairman

The Senate has confirmed President Muhammadu Buhari’s nomination of Abdulrasheed Bawa as the next Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The confirmation had become an issue following allegations that the nominee was not qualified for the position and that he had been indicted over the improper disposal of assets seized by the commission while he was head of the Port Harcourt office of the commission.

Bawa denied the allegation at the Senate screening as he claimed that the seized items including containers were properly disposed by the commission’s agents from Abuja.

Following the questioning, Bawa was confirmed by the majority vote of senators in the session.
