634 New COVID-19 Cases in Nigeria

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded 634 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 154,476.

The NCDC disclosed this on its official Twitter handle on Thursday.

The public health agency also registered six COVID-19 additional deaths, raising the total fatality in the country to 1,891.

The centre noted that the new infections were registered across 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

It said that Lagos State registered 259 infections, followed by Osun with 45, Edo,  38; and Ogun with 35 infections.

According to the centre, the number of people who have recovered and discharged on Thursday increased by 881, including 236 community recoveries in Lagos State and 79 in Imo, managed in line with its guidelines.

NCDC added that with the 634 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country stood at 20,863 in the last 24 hours.

It stated that 1,489,103 people were tested since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced on Feb. 27, 2020.

Meanwhile the Edo State Government, as part of improved efforts to contain the second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19), has intensified sample collection across the 18 local government areas of the state, collecting 15, 327 samples with 1,795 testing positive to the virus.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this during a virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Obi noted that the state, in the last 24 hours, recorded 41 new recoveries with 589 active cases and collected 291 samples from which 7 new cases were confirmed.

He said, “Edo has so far recorded 1,795 confirmed cases, 1,156 recoveries and 50 deaths since December 1, 2020 when the state started tracking the second wave of the virus.”
