Miracle, Not A Sign Of God’s Approval

And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

Numbers 20:11.

Moses smote the rock the first time against the order of God. Perhaps a little water came out and he was tempted to believe that hitting at the rock as he did 39 or so years earlier would bring water and then he hit at the rock a second time and the water came out ABUNDANTLY and the people shouted God has used Moses again!

Moses struck the rock using the experience of years before, not relying on the present word.

He set apart the present word of speaking to the rock cos anger had taken over him.

But it is noteworthy that the miracle still happened!

God in this case cos of His desire to give water to the people allowed water or the miracle and some would say the END justifies the means.

But not with God.

That’s why our Eternal Rock said in Matthew 7:22-23 “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity”

It was this particular act of Moses in not heeding the Word at that time that stopped him from entering the Promised Land.

And Jesus clearly stated that many now following Him will also be denied who despise the Word they hear. Matthew 7:26-27.

Beloved, that’s why again and again we should go back to His word and heed them against any other injunction.

Do you know, He said He has raised and lifted His Word above even His name. Psalm 138:2.
