The kidnapped schoolgirls of Government Secondary School in Jangebe, Zamfara State have been released, GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports.

Details of the release were as at midday on Sunday still sketchy but there were reports late on Saturday that the state government was in deep negotiations with the bandits for the release of the about 317 girls.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s special assistant on new media, Mr. Philip Obin also confirmed the development in a tweet.

It was, however, gathered that the girls were released on Sunday morning and were as at midday in the palace of the Emir of Anka and were set to be bussed to Gusau the state capital.

The journey from Anka to Gusau which is a distance of about 132 kilometers is expected to take about two hours.

The girls were kidnaped on Friday morning and if the release is confirmed they would have spent two days and nights with the bandits.

The release of the girls while good news for the federal authorities is, however, no cheer as to a respite in the spate of attacks on schools.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG has learnt of fresh attacks on other schools in Niger State on Saturday night.
