Political gladiators in Edo State have been warned not to drag the Oba of Benin into the melee over the N30 billion Benin Stormwater project.

The Benin Solidarity Movement, BSM in a statement obtained by GreenWhiteGreen GWG specifically cautioned the Minister of State for Budget and Planning, Prince Clem Agba not to drag  His Royal Majesty , the Oba of Benin , Oba Ewuare 11 into the storm arising from Governor Godwin Obaseki’s decision to probe the execution of the project.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Obaseki during a recent inspection of the project vowed to probe the project which was executed by his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. Agba was commissioner for environment in the Oshiomhole administration and reportedly had direct oversight over the project.

BSM in a statement signed by its president, Elder Curtis Eghosa Ugbo gave the caution to Agba and others in the light of the claim that Agba in a letter to Governor Obaseki on the issue mentioned the name of the His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11.

Cautioning Agba and other disputants to a probe not to drag in the Benin monarch into the issue, Ugbo said: “the mention of the name of the Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11 in some parts of the letter act as an alert bell for the BSM to wade in and ward off the politicians resort to using his name to gain undue sympathy or advantage in the course of their argument,” the group said in warning that the Oba should not be dragged into the Benin stormwater controversy.

“Let it be known to the feuding politicians that the issue of the mismanaged N30 billion Storm Water Project should in no way be made to seem His Royal Majesty has a pecuniary interest in it”.

“Prince Clem Agba, who has a royal blood should know that royalty should never be dragged into the murky waters of politics the way he is trying to do.

“Needless to say, that the monarch, who is very much interested in good governance, would never meddle in such a course of action meant to address a burning issue.”
