The Delta State Police Command has mobilised a total of 8,292 personnel to provide security for the March 6 Local Council election in the state.

The Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Edafe Bright, said this in Asaba on Tuesday.

“Ahead of the forthcoming local government election in Delta slated for March 6, 2021, CP Muhammed Ali wishes to assure all residents that the command is committed to ensuring the security of everyone in the state.

“To this end, the command wishes to announce the deployment of 8,292 of its officers to all the polling units across the state.

“The CP remains resolute in ensuring the sanctity of the electoral process; as such assures the public that all electoral materials and officials engaged in this election are secured,” Bright said in a statement.

He reiterated the commissioner’s appeal to front runners in the election and their supporters to restrain themselves from causing chaos, as such would not be tolerated.

The spokesperson warned that no police aide or security agent would be allowed to escort their principals or important personalities to polling units during and after the election.

“Any security aide violating this directive will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.

Bright assured members of the public that personnel deployed for the elections would be professional in carrying out their designated duties.
