The Leader Must Diminish And God Must Increase

Published

on

And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to SANCTIFY ME in the EYES of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. Numbers 20:12.

Moses in God’s words did not sanctify Him in the eyes of the people.

Now, to sanctify is to set apart for holy use. In this case it would have entailed God being hallowed and referenced as Moses spoke to the Rock.

But it never happened. Rather what the people saw was an angry Moses talking down on them. He even imputed that he had a role in fetching the water. (Must we fetch you water…Numbers 20:10)

This tells us that the duty of a leader, pastor or preacher is to raise the glory of God in the eyes of his followers, while at the same time himself is reduced in the sight of his followers.

Did u see John the Baptist? He said Jesus “must increase and I must decrease” John 3:30.

The idea of men (our leaders) emerging and increasing in our eyes, blocking our perception of God is even more wrong in the New Testament dispensation.

When that happens such leaders take the position of God in judgement, mercy and such.

Men must reduce over time to the point of death and God raised increasingly in glory before our sight that we would individually and collectively hallow Him.

That was what Moses was to do, but his personal challenges deterred him to the point of raising himself as the one giving the drink and sharing God’s glory.

May God help our leaders everywhere in this light in Jesus Name, Amen.

Good Day
