reimburse Oba of Lagos

The claim by the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu that the protesters and hoodlums who violated the sanctity of his palace during the #EndSARS protest carted away $2 million and N17 million has received mixed reactions from the public. There are now insinuations that Akiolu made the claim in the expectation that the Government would reimburse the Oba of Lagos of the said amount.

Speaking o spoke at the Glover Hall Memorial Commissioning, in Lagos on Wednesday, the monarch said:

“I can now say it publicly that they stole from my palace two million dollars cash and N17 million, I am now saying it publicly.

“I am not a wealthy man, but I am a contented person and Insha Allahu, I will continue to be rich.”

The comment has drawn serious comments from commentators on social media with many calling on the financial authorities to investigate the monarch for money laundering.

However, there was an exception to the claim by a commentator who insinuated that even though money was taken from the palace but that it may not have been to the amount claimed by the monarch. The insinuation of the Lagos State Government compensating him for the money was also raised and that the monarch mentioned the amount to get a higher compensation.

Nonetheless, many took to twitter to express their comments on the monarch’s claim. The thought that the Lagos State government would reimburse the Oba of Lagos of the amount was also hanging

In a sane country Oba Of Lagos will surely be queried, what was he doing with that huge amount and how he got them, but this is Nigeria, anything goes.

So the Oba of Lagos had almost 1 billion Naira cash,  stashed in his palace? Well, he was a police officer for almost 3 decade! Nigeria’s redemption is unrealistic. Corruption, our dilemma. #E
