Cleaner Bags 14 Months Jail Term For Stealing 32-Inch TV, Decoders

A Grade I Area Court, Mpape, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a cleaner, Mgbe Collins to 14 months imprisonment for stealing two 32-Inch Plasma TVs and decoders worth N266, 000 belonging to a school.

The police charged Collins with theft.

The Judge, Salihu Ibrahim, sentenced Collins after he pleaded guilty to the crime.

Ibrahim, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N30, 000.

He also ordered that the convict pay N266, 000 in damages to Famak British school, Asokoro, Abuja.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Stanley Nwaforaku told the court that the convict, was employed as a cleaner by the school.

Nwaforaku said, on Jan. 8, the convict stole two 32-inch plasma TVs two decoders and one Imos Television all worth N266, 000.

He said the matter was reported at the Asokoro Police Station by Emmanuel Ali of Famak British School, No 8 Adekunle Fajayi close, Asokoro, Abuja.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 289 of the Penal Code.
