Nigerian pair of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi had wonderful reasons to smile as Leicester City downed Sheffield United 5-0 at the King Power Stadium to leapfrog Manchester United and move to second on the table for the time being. Kelechi Iheanacho proved to be a class act as he scored a scintillating hat-trick on a hot  afternoon.

The Foxes aimed to stamp their authority on the game in the early proceedings as Jamie Vardy struck the first shot on goal in the 7th minute. Ayoze Perez’s 11th minute header was pushed away by Ramsdale in Sheffield’s goal and unto to bar before Ramsdale made another smart save to deny Vardy.

Leicester deservedly took the lead through Kelechi Iheanacho after he was teed up by Jamie Vardy in the 39th minute. A fine passage of play by the Leicester team was rounded off by Iheanacho who tipped the ball into an open net.

It was the first time the Nigerian will score in three successive Premier League games in his career. That was the story of the first half as Leicester were in control.

Four minutes into the second half, Vardy was denied again by Ramsdale before Ayoze Perez’s 64th minute sublime attempt doubled Leicester’s lead.

The link up play between Iheanacho and Vardy was efficacious as Iheanacho got his second after receiving the ball from Vardy in the 70th minute. Ten minutes later, an immaculate left footed strike by Iheanacho completed his hat-trick. It was his first Premier League hat-trick.

Overexcited by his three goals, Iheanacho fluffed his lines twice later on. Before Jamie Vardy forced an own goal out of a Sheffield defender to make it five.

Interestingly, Leicester City’s quest for Champions League football is appearing to be a successful route.
